About
Ships are more than mere vessels traversing water—they are archetypes of journey, symbols of the quest beyond the horizon, and embodiments of craftsmanship, history, and time. Whether it’s a sailing ship at sunset, a fishing skiff at the dock, or an ocean liner in open waters, each vessel carries its own distinct aesthetic and character.
We are looking for photographs in which the ship is the central element of the image—not as a background detail, but as the carrier of meaning, form, and visual emphasis. Its presence should define the composition, atmosphere, and conceptual core of the frame.
Accepted:
- Photographs in which a real seafaring or river vessel—of any type, from a classic sailing ship to a modern tanker—serves as the central and dominant compositional element.
- All genres are welcome: maritime landscapes, ship portraits, documentary or staged photography, art photography—provided the vessel remains the clear focal point.
- Images captured from shore or from the air are acceptable, as long as the external viewpoint emphasizes the vessel’s significance within the frame.
Not accepted:
- Toy, model, or decorative ships (including souvenirs, dioramas, or scale replicas).
- Photographs in which the ship appears only as a secondary or background element—for example, general harbor views without a clear focus on a specific vessel, or images where emphasis is placed on another subject or person.
